What Are Implant Dentures?

According to the American Academy of Prosthodontists, an estimated 40 million people are missing all of their teeth. Even if you don’t feel like there’s a solution that can help rebuild your smile along with your confidence, there is, and you shouldn’t give up hope! Dr. Nawrocki has been replacing missing teeth with implant dentures in Ormond Beach for years and is highly skilled at creating lifelike prosthetics that look and feel like natural teeth. To learn more about how we can provide you with a dazzling, new, confidence-boosting set of pearly whites, contact our office today to schedule a consultation.

Implant dentures combine the best aesthetic benefits of traditional dentures with the security of dental implants. Instead of utilizing natural suction and denture adhesive to stay in place, your replacement teeth are secured to small titanium posts that are fused with your jawbone, eliminating any shifting or slipping that could occur when you eat or speak.

Permanent Implant Dentures

Permanent implant dentures are affixed to your implants so you can’t remove them from your mouth. Patients who are looking for a truly natural-feeling restorative solution often opt for fixed implant dentures.

Removable Implant Dentures

Removable implant dentures can be taken off of your dental implants so you can thoroughly clean them or give your mouth a rest whenever you’d like. This is convenient for patients who are used to dealing with traditional dentures or want the added perk of being able to take their prosthetic out of their mouth when they want.

The Implant Denture Process

The first step on your smile restoration journey is your consultation with your implant dentist in Ormond Beach. Our team will examine your smile and take X-rays to determine whether you require any preparatory procedures, such as a bone graft or sinus lift. We’ll then take some time to outline a customized treatment plan for you, so you know exactly what this process will entail, because every patient is different. Once you decide to move forward with the plan, we’ll schedule your implant surgery, where we’ll place between four and eight dental implants that will secure your denture.

After placing your abutments, we’ll take impressions of your mouth that we’ll send off to our dental laboratory to craft your beautiful prosthetic. As soon as it arrives, we’ll call you back in to place it and give you some guidance on how to get the most out of your new smile.

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Not every patient is a good candidate for implant dentures in Ormond Beach. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t get there! Here are a few traits that could cause complications throughout the treatment if they aren’t addressed:

  • Tobacco use
  • Jawbone erosion
  • Uncontrolled autoimmune disease
  • Gum disease
  • Poor oral hygiene

Even if you aren’t a great candidate right off the bat, that definitely doesn’t mean that dental implants aren’t right for you. We’ll work with you to make your mouth healthy and strong before moving forward with the treatment and risking implant failure.
